On the Way Down Throwdown - And the Winner Is . . .

By Byrne Harrison

Congratulations to the participants of the On the Way Down Throwdown tonight at the Access Theater. It was a terrific event, and the three companies did a great job with their entries.

First up was Rebellious Subjects Theatre with their "Audience Interactive Bar Snacks." These sweet and spicy roasted pecans were a treat, and very appropriate for a company known for putting on productions of Shakespeare's plays in bars.

Next up was Hip Obscurity, who referenced their mission of producing works dealing with gender and sexual identity issues by submitting a "How Do You Identify: Tapenade or Bottom?" These goat chese, fig and olive appetizers were a savory success.

Finally, hosts Ashberry Productions presented a vegan treat - "Lindsay's New Old-Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake." Delicious and creamy, you'd never guess it was vegan.

And the winners (chosen by celebrity judges Paul Schultz, Elizabeth Hodes and Paul Capone) were:

1st Prize - Hip Obscurity
2nd Prize - Rebellious Subjects Theatre
3rd Prize - Ashberry Productions

Finally, the Audience Choice Award went to Ashberry Productions.

The winners received prize packages which included legal services, public relations services, publishing assistance, memberships with United Stages and Fractured Atlas, among other items.

All in all a great event for the audience and the participants. Here's hoping we see more events like this in the future.
